Computer Training For Emergency Services Personnel

Category: Computer TrainingAnders Eriksson @ 2:28 pm

Emergency Services personnel receive extensive training in their respective academy. In the initial phase of training, the subject matter is mainly academic. Law enforcement personnel, for one, cover topics such as state law, drug recognition, hazardous materials recognition, and more through hours of classroom instruction. The remainder of the training cycle is hands-on training. In a portion of the hands-on training, computers play a major role. For instance, for law enforcement there are ‘shoot or don’t shoot’ scenarios: These are played out on a video game like system, in which the officer stands on a padded surface that detects every movement (ducking, kneeling, shifting side-to-side). While standing on the surface, the officer has a weapon ‘holstered’ and is provided scenarios in which he or she must decide whether or not to shoot a subject. During this training, the officers every action or inaction is monitored up to and including verbal commands given to the ‘subject’. This type of computer training has proven vital over the years in terms of evaluating prospective law enforcement officials.

In the world of Emergency Services, certification is imperative. Included in the definition of Emergency Services personnel are police, fire, and EMS. In most states these personnel are required to maintain certification through a points system. Personnel earn points through course completion; annual certification in different subject matter and annual re-certifications. In addition to the points earned for required academic subjects, there are points awarded for similar training courses. These ‘extra’ subject matter are often considered an acceptable substitution for required subjects.

In the past fifteen years, due to budget constraints and other factors, annual academic subject matter is being rearranged to accommodate computer training. This has proven cost effective to state and local agencies: budgets aren’t stretched thin, leaving funds available for special projects and such.

If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point, don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

There are many examples of computer training received by Emergency Services personnel. Of the many important classes, for example, are Hazardous Material recognition courses. The benefit of completing a course such as this is twofold: the materials can be covered easily during a shift, and instant results are generated. The fact that a computer training course can be completed during a shift makes it cost effective for a small department in terms of travel expense, wear and tear on a vehicle, and time lost to training.

For policemen desiring to obtain training on subject matter that would normally require their attendance at a far off training conference, this is a boon. Computer training courses covering topics such as drug recognition are relatively easy to find. These courses are generally recognized by the respective law enforcement training division of the given state. While a policemen may be discouraged from taking such a course during duty hours, it is entirely possible to complete such a course during off-duty hours. Again, this type of computer training course benefits not only the officer, but the Department.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of computer training for Emergency Services personnel is the one aspect of their lives that become the most neglected: family time.

I hope that reading the above information was both enjoyable and educational for you. Your learning process should be ongoing–the more you understand about any subject, the more you will be able to share with others.

Why Join a Mentoring Program?

Category: MentoringAnders Eriksson @ 7:21 am

When most people think of Mentoring, what comes to mind is usually basic information that’s not particularly interesting or beneficial. But there’s a lot more to Mentoring than just the basics.

Joining a mentoring program is a very powerful tool that can help you reach your potential because of the training and empowerment it provides. Mentoring is also one of the most effective ways for you to advance in your career because your skills are developed and your performance is monitored. In short, mentoring enables you to be the person you really want to be.

Two-way Relationship

It is important to realize though that mentoring is a relationship between two people who trust and respect each other. Mentoring is not simply a teacher-student relationship; rather, it is a partnership that will help both the mentor and the mentee grow both personally and professionally.

The mentor can aid the mentee so that he can find the right direction he should take in his career. The mentors will usually rely on their own experiences in the past and their knowledge about the industry. Because of this, mentoring can be a great way for a mentee to understand his career options and progress professionally in the future.

Most of the time, having a mentor will boost the confidence and the self-assurance of a mentee because he has all the support, encouragement, and guidance he needs. But the mentors should also take note that challenging the mentee to do his best is the best thing they can do so that the mentee will know how to handle difficult situations the right way in the future.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of Mentoring is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about Mentoring.

As was mentioned earlier, a mentoring program is a two-way relationship; so likewise, the mentor can also expect that he will learn a lot from teaching and guiding another person. This will develop his management and leadership skills so he will develop empathy for people who is experiencing the same struggles he did in the past.

Benefits of a Mentoring Program

A mentor will help a mentee believe in his or her capabilities as a person. Because of this, the self-confidence of the mentee will be improved and they will be more apt to accept more challenges in the future. The mentor would also enable the mentee to explore new ideas so that you can achieve a higher level of self-assurance in yourself and explore even greater highs of success. The mentoring program will be an opportunity for you to take a deeper look at yourself, your goals, your personality, and your life. This will enable you to know which the right path you should take in life is.

Features You Should Look For

Of course, it is inevitable that some mentoring programs would be better than others because of the features and objectives provided by the specific program. For example, it would be better for you to get a mentor from outside the company so that you will get an unbiased view of what you should do regardless of who your boss is. The mentoring program would not be entirely effective if your mentor knows your boss as well.

Likewise, the things that are discussed during the mentorship program should always remain confidential between the mentor and the mentee. And lastly, the mentorship program should be focused on the person. The mentor should be aware of the everyday challenges that his mentee faces so that these issues can be faced accordingly and enable the mentee to succeed in his career.

The day will come when you can use something you read about here to have a beneficial impact. Then you’ll be glad you took the time to learn more about Mentoring.

A Look At The Growth of The Computer Training Industry

Category: Computer TrainingAnders Eriksson @ 6:49 am

The following article lists some simple, informative tips that will help you have a better experience with Computer Training.

It started with a math problem. That problem brought on the challenge of more complex math problems. Humans were performing these complex math problems using various methods. Then came the abacus: a simple instrument designed to aid in performing mathematical calculations. One might say that this is where computer training began: the first teacher training the first student on the operation of the abacus.

Many years hence, other devices were created to aid in mathematical computations, yet the original ‘computer’ – the abacus – remained. Through the aid of electronics came the first computer. This first computer could fill a room. In fact, there are many from that era in use to this day: they still fill a room. The purpose of the first computer was to complete complex mathematical operations in little or no time.

In the beginning, computers were the forte of scientists and mathematicians. Then they became more prevalent making their way into universities and other higher learning institutions. At the universities and other higher learning institutions sat students undergoing their first computer training classes. Students anxiously stood in line after line to sign up for computer training classes: many were turned away due to over-crowding.

As technology advanced, these super computers began shrinking in size. In fact, computers can now be found that are smaller than a cornflake: they are properly termed microchips or mini-computers. Along with the shrinking size of the computer came the shrinking price of a computer. Eventually, computers became affordable enough for the average Joe to own. Not only were they small and affordable, they were portable (think laptop).

Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.

With all of these computers, somebody needed to know how to use them. Universities offered computer training courses as well as small colleges and technical colleges. What was once considered an intellectuals pursuit only, has become commonplace. High Schools initially offered computer science’s where basic computer programming and computer basics were taught. The computer then made it’s way into middle schools and on into elementary schools. It’s come to the point where everyone attending public schooling is exposed to some form or another of computer training.

It’s gotten to the point where young school-aged students began having more experience than the older generation. In fact, it seemed they were outpacing their elders in at least that one area of expertise.

The older generation began to recognize the need for computer training. Many were busy raising the younger generation. This generation found it difficult to take time to attend formal computer training in a classroom environment. Still others, busied by a full time job faced a similar dilemma. Computers were in the workplace and the higher paying jobs were going to those with computer knowledge or outright expertise.

Companies, institutions, and computer experts recognized this and took advantage of it. The lack of computer training and or lack of time created a niche. Computer training took off. Online computer training courses became available for just about anyone that could find their way onto the internet. This truly brought computer’s to everyone.

Considering the above account, one can’t help but wonder what the next step in the growth of computer training will be.

So now you know a little bit about Computer Training. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.

All About Juvenile Mentoring Programs

Category: MentoringAnders Eriksson @ 11:15 am

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Mentoring in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.

Guiding young people toward a better life can be a rewarding experience, but it can be a difficult and harrowing experience as well. Many young persons are not necessarily open to being guided, and will often protest that they are shackled and constrained especially when someone insists on being the wiser being over them. Young persons need to be approached in a certain manner, and with a certain mien and creativity that should not go overboard into cuteness or cheesy lines. In other words, young persons need to know that they have someone to talk to, and in the process, they can still be guided.

It is in this league that juvenile mentoring programs operate. The process of mentoring involves matching mentors to a suitable younger person who need an adult who is responsible and caring. The adult mentors that participate in juvenile mentoring programs are usually not related to the teen or the child in question; this is because relatives are not often perceived with trust, especially where children of broken homes or abusive parents are concerned. The adult mentors that participate in juvenile mentoring programs are also usually volunteers who work through a program that is sponsored by the local community; a local school or community college; or the local church or religious group.

The mentoring process may be either formal or informal. In formal mentoring, the juvenile mentoring program has certain criteria to match mentors to their protégés, and these criteria are determined by social service workers, social psychologists, psychiatrists, and other experts who are working with the local community or the state. Formal mentoring might even involve a regimented schedule around which the mentoring will progress, where the mentor will be provided modules in order to guide the protégés or youth that are assigned to them.

Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.

Informal mentoring can also be done in a juvenile mentoring program. In this case, the criteria are not as stringent, and there are no set deadlines or schedules around which the mentoring will operate. Instead, the mentor will simply aim to educate and encourage the mentee, protégé, or youth to whom he or she is assigned. In some cases, there may be more than one mentee to a mentor, and it is these support groups that likewise help each other succeed.

There are many juvenile mentoring programs that are available around the world. For instance, there are after-school programs in which youth leaders help younger persons succeed in the world by teaching them different skills, knowledge, and even arts and crafts that are meant to impart independence and creativity. Such organizations might include the local 4-H or FFA. There are also programs in which young delinquents are assigned to mentors who will help them get a better education. Moreover, there are programs in which at-risk youth, such as those in inner cities or in the ghettos, are helped by mentors who will help them overcome their personal limitations and thus succeed in life.

Some juvenile mentoring programs might include the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which helps youth do better through the help of older teens or young adults. There are still many other juvenile mentoring programs that are being developed, especially now that there are also many different kinds of dangers to which youth may fall into. Such dangers may include drugs, smoking, pornography, and even the Internet, where children may be preyed upon if they are not wise and careful enough.

If you want to find out more about juvenile mentoring programs, look online for programs that may either help you as a mentee, or train you as a mentor. You too, can help the younger generation do better in the years to come.

Skin Allergies: Three Important Things To Consider

Category: AllergiesAnders Eriksson @ 8:02 am

When you’re learning about something new, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of relevant information available. This informative article should help you focus on the central points.

Many people are aware that allergies affect digestive or respiratory systems however they are also a big enemy of the largest organ ? the skin. If you suffer from this condition, it is important to know the effective approach to manage your skin allergies. There are three important things you should know when skin allergies are triggered so that you can avoid them from happening and prevent your skin from getting ruined.

First, understand how these skin allergic reactions are triggered.

Just like how the digestive or respiratory systems react from the allergens inhaled or ingested, your skin overreacts when certain substances or chemicals made contact with it. In some cases, the allergies set in too quickly while there are also other instances when they set in after a while. Either way, it can be very itchy and this can be very serious on your skin. Knowing what type of chemicals that cause the condition is one way to better manage skin allergies.

Second, identify and eliminate skin irritants and allergens that cause the itching or scratching cycle.

This can be hard considering that there are at last three thousands of irritants and allergens which trigger skin allergies. However, knowing or identifying your skin usually comes in contact with will give you a nice start. You have two general types of skin irritants or allergens to look at: natural and man-made ones.

? Latex

Latex is derived from a Brazilian rubber tree. These are natural proteins however when undergone manufacturing process, they become more of allergens which trigger the reactions when an individual suffering the condition comes in contact with it. Gloves are one of the products which are made of latex and are normally used by people.

However, there are others made of such as well, such as the balloons, elastic bands (and those even found in the undergarments), pencil erasers, and even baby pacifiers. If you are known to have allergic reactions, it is best to avoid products that contain latex. Instead, opt for plastic or vinyl.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Allergies now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

? Nickel

You can find nickel in many everyday things, such as coins, jewelry, scissors, zippers, and some kitchen and bathroom handles. You can also find it in certain eye shadows, mascara, eye pencils, and others. Nickel allergy patients have risen to 40% for the past years because of the growing popularity of using jewelry, body piercings, and cosmetics.

Aside from this, there are certain foods that contain natural nickel and if you are suffering severe symptoms, you need to undergo supervised medical diet. Avoiding nickel seems to be the best way to stop the allergies as there are currently no means to desensitize nickel allergy reactions.

Third, take care of your skin.

One thing that you can do is to always keep fingernails short. This reduces serious damage from scratching.

Dry skin tends to irritate easily, so it will help if it is kept moisturized and softened. For patients with reactions to certain chemicals, medical doctors may suggest using preparations with topical corticosteroid to control or prevent the inflammation.

When taking a shower, don’t go for hot ones. The heat increases the dryness and itchiness of the skin triggering causing more the irritants to attack. You can use lukewarm water though for 20-30 minutes of soaking. Adding baking soda or oatmeal can help sooth your skin.

Bubble baths are not a good idea since they stop the bathwater from moisturizing and softening your skin. As much as possible, use mild or non-soap cleanser.

It is also important to avoid experiencing heavy perspiration, heavy clothing, and heavy physical contact to stop skin irritants or allergies from being triggered easily. You will also have to remember rinsing the chlorine as soon as possible after swimming in a pool.

It never hurts to be well-informed with the latest on Allergies. Compare what you’ve learned here to future articles so that you can stay alert to changes in the area of Allergies.

Computer Repair Training

Category: Computer TrainingAnders Eriksson @ 11:50 pm

When you begin to evaluate the computer industry, one thing stands out. Getting the right computer repair training can lead to a rewarding career that will provide years of satisfaction helping others as well as provide an income to live on. While there are many schools who provide such training, the type of school or training method is not nearly as important as ensuring that the school provides the tools you need to succeed in the real world. Computer repair training is one of the most important steps in advancing your computing career, so don’t take the review of your options lightly!

The first thing you should consider in your evaluation of the computer repair training school is the credentials of the institution. There are several main bodies that will issue recommendations in the IT (Information Technology) field, and you should become aware of them. For computers and software CompTIA is an important, universally recognized organization, while Microsoft, Dell, and HP all have their own certifications and credentialed programs. In the networking field CompTIA again is a universally recognized name, while Cisco is the dominant name brand certification used. Be sure that the instructors conducting the computer repair training are certified appropriately in their respective fields from a recognized certification source like those mentioned above.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

The next thing you need to consider when evaluating your computer repair training school is whether or not they offer hands-on training for all of your classes. It is essential to fully grasping a concept, especially in the hardware field, that you have some hands-on training. You don’t want to get out in the field on a service call, only to realize that you have no idea what you are doing. Some computer repair training schools will not only provide hands-on training but also provide possible internships with local service and repair shops. This allows not only hands-on with the equipment, but also a chance to work on your face to face customer service skills. While most technicians seem to get into the repair end of the industry because of the analytical skills involved in troubleshooting, there is still and aspect to customer service even in this part of the IT business.

The final consideration when evaluating a good computer repair training school is whether or not they provide a spring board for your own certification. It is all nice and well for them to provide you with a certificate showing you completed your classes with them. That’s great, and looks good on a resume. However, it simply doesn’t carry the same weight as one of the industry standard certifications we mentioned above. In addition, some computer repair training schools will provide you with what is called a voucher to obtain your industry certifications. Simply put, the voucher is a coupon code that allows you to pay a reduced rate to take your industry certification tests. Whether it is CompTIA, Miscrosoft, or Cisco certification you are seeking, a good computer repair training school will provide you with the resources to obtain a discount on the testing price.

Choosing Retirement Communities

Category: Retirement CommunitiesAnders Eriksson @ 6:09 pm

If you’re a senior and you still want to have the same independence of owning a home plus the benefit of being part of a community then its time you consider retirement communities. But do note that not all of these communities are the same so take you’re time to get information about them before settling in.

Important Facts

Nowadays, the trend is that children are starting to care for their aging parents and there are certain communities made for retirement that don’t necessarily require a person to be retired to live in it. Because of this, the term ‘retirement community’ seems misleading. Most communities now accept residents of a certain age that don’t work full-time but they can work part-time. Today, different communities now require different terms of residency. Some communities don’t allow a retiree’s grandchild to live with them. There are also others who have community rules for other housing developments like how lawns should be taken care of, parking and care for pets.

These communities are essentially housing developments that are especially made for seniors and their needs. The homes in a community are usually single level with a small area and have less bedrooms. What makes every community different from another is location, activities and amenities. These are the factors that a senior should keep in mind before choosing the right community.

The Perfect Spot

Communities designed for seniors can be usually found in mid to large-sized cities such as Florida, Nevada and Arizona. All of which are popular retirement areas especially since the climates here are milder and there is a low cost of living. Now that the population of the country is getting older there are other cities that are now building specialized communities for seniors. You will often find these communities close to health centers, public transportation areas and establishments like libraries or museums. Aside from these, you can also find these communities near health establishments, boutiques and parks.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and Retirement Communities experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to Retirement Communities.

What to Do

The second factor before considering a community are activities planned for the residents. Some of these activities may include theater, museum, concert and art exhibits where organizers can get in group discounted rates. Other activities that might interest seniors are bible study, book clubs, charity dinners, among others. Not everyone is required to take part in the activities but a lot of seniors enjoy socializing with others in big groups without having to organize it themselves.

Extra Perks

Aside from these two previous factors another factor worth considering in choosing a community to retire in are amenities. Some of these extra perks include memberships in a golf or marina club which includes homeownership, special privileges in a clubhouse, maintenance like housekeeping and landscaping and lastly, extra security in the area.

But since these extra perks are made for active seniors the only setback here is that there is less on demand health services. So if you’re a senior that needs special care or additional therapy you can consider getting outside assistance or look for a community that takes care of your needs like those offering adult day care.
Making the Choice

There is no one great community that can satisfy all the needs of every senior. Shortlist retirement communities that fits your lifestyle and your needs and before finally picking one from the list, make sure to do a background check first.

Mentoring: A Glue that Binds African Traditions

Category: MentoringAnders Eriksson @ 8:03 pm

The more you understand about any subject, the more interesting it becomes. As you read this article you’ll find that the subject of Mentoring is certainly no exception.

When the subject of conversation turns to rich culture and traditions, Africa would definitely be a part of that discussion. And with the voyage of Africans to the Great Americas, these people have endured so much?poverty, discrimination, racism and numerous other attacks. The society, as it seemed, had waged war against this race but they were resilient. And now that they are among a different nation, it is imperative that these African Americans uphold their traditions.

Just looking at how African Americans survived the slavery and intolerance against them, you would grow to respect these people. But what made them pliant to all these trials? Was it keeping their traditions? If it was, how did these traditions reach the modern day African American kids? Handing down these customs to younger generations meant having someone teach the ways of the old. This is where mentoring comes in.

Mentoring is simply defined as a process where an experienced individual gives support and encouragement to a person who has less experience. The mentor then serves as the advisor though his example and guidance. Mentoring could be informal or formal.

With formal mentoring among African Americans, the mentor could be the guide of the student on his academic works. He could also guide the student to community affairs which aim to maintain their traditions through several factors such as religion, music, poetry, and others. It could also be as serious as coping with racial discrimination and how to be confident despite the environmental circumstances. With informal mentoring, it could simply mean teaching time management or networking with the same groups of people.

Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.

But what are the traditions that need to be handed down to the next generation? Looking at the younger generations of African Americans now, we can conclude that they have gone a long way and have improved immensely in all aspects. Confidence and self-worth is a great part of African American mentoring. What is there to be ashamed about their culture anyway? They are a great people and they value close family ties, respect for the elderly and they excel in arts and sports.

Due to this need for mentoring among the black race, 100 Black Men, Inc. was born in 1963. Its purpose is to improve African American lives in a community full of whites. Currently, there are famous members such as Denzel Washington, Bill Cosby, Michael Jordan, to name a few.

Mentoring was and still is an essential duty of this organization. One of their programs intended that children ages nine until post secondary learning would get holistic knowledge through some rites of passage which includes preparation of the males for their manhood. Also, the subjects cover aspects of heritage, family, etiquette, survival and other skills, and even faith. Resource management, athletics and tutoring are also essential parts of the learning process.

By taking part in such mentoring activities, the young African American would develop better understanding of his culture. Pride and self-esteem would also be established without disrespecting other colors or race.

The mentoring process, in general, teaches respect and appreciation for the African culture. By knowing the rich history and contemporary assets of these people, they are better able to keep and protect what rightfully belongs to them which no amount of slavery would be able to corrupt.

The Growing Need for Mentoring in Healthcare

Category: MentoringAnders Eriksson @ 1:00 am

Of the many programs that have been introduced and integrated in the healthcare practice, mentoring has been one of the most misunderstood and under-utilized. This is unfortunate, considering that healthcare is a sector in many areas of business that has seen an upward growth. Without mentoring, many of the practices and important methods and procedures involved in healthcare may not be maximized at all.

The need for proper mentoring in the healthcare sector
According to registered nurse and author Zardoya Eagles, a mentor can help a healthcare provider prepare himself for public service. A mentor can also help someone in the advancement of his/her career. The human factor, according to Eagles, is one of the best reasons why mentoring should take on more significance in many of today’s healthcare settings.

The results of a well-implemented mentoring practice may be difficult to quantify but it is by no means a less important undertaking. It is an acknowledged process that helps improve the processes within an organization and actually leads staff to achieve better results for their efforts, particularly in today’s knowledge-based institutions.

Benefits of healthcare mentoring
There are several advantages to ensuring that mentoring resources are provided in healthcare sectors. These include:

- The opportunity for departments within organizations to check flaws in their practices and to improve their services significantly.

- Provide a way for newbies in the industry to develop the necessary skills to work and thrive in the healthcare environment more quickly and efficiently.

- Provide the means with which future leaders within the organization are spotted and developed. Mentors within the organization can also develop their own skills and become highly valued employees.

- Provide a means for the organization to offer a nurturing form of practice to its staff and employees.

- The opportunity to achieve compliance in the industry through the improvement of services.

- Improve the management of hospitals, clinics and other healthcare institutions.

The best time to learn about Mentoring is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Mentoring experience while it’s still free.

- Develop staff and employee and increase intellectual capital.

Having mentoring practices in place is also an excellent recruitment tool for healthcare institutions and a way to increase positive feedback. It is also a way for institutions to share their knowledge and other important information to help other hospitals improve their own practices and services. Mentoring is also an excellent means to keep updated about the latest practices and developments in the healthcare sector.

Implementing mentoring in an organization
Mentoring may seem like a set of procedures that are simple to implement but it is in fact, a process that might be problematic and counter-productive if not used properly. Some of the most important considerations when implementing mentoring for any organization include:

1) Proper understanding of the goals of the organization, its resources, facilities and manpower.

2) Proper understanding of the interests, goals, expectations and values of the staff.

3) Proper knowledge in the implementation of mentoring activities and procedures that will fit the needs of the organizations and those of the staff concerned.

4) Adequate information about the most successful techniques and methods in mentoring that will help an organization meet its goals.

5) Sufficient knowledge in matching mentors and mentees in order to take advantage of the perfect mentoring relationship.
